Nicole Kidman is The Lady From Shanghai?
Source: Screen Daily , Mary October 1, 2004

Screen Daily reports that Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai (Days of Being Wild) is planning to work Nicole Kidman on a project with the working title The Lady From Shanghai. The helmer hopes to shoot the film early next year.

Wong's long-time collaborator, production designer and editor William Chang Suk-ping, is currently meeting with Kidman to discuss her character and the look of the film. The story is set in 1930s Shanghai, a setting and era that the Shanghai-born director is known to be interested in.

The trade says that Wong writes scripts as he shoots and is renowned for keeping actors in the dark about their characters. He's also notorious for taking his time with actors and spent five years shooting 2046. Kidman may work on "Shanghai" regularly in between other projects.

Nicole Kidman is The Lady From Shanghai

While we wait here patiently for the new Alexander trailer to download, you might be interested to hear that 2046 director Wong Kar Wai has plans to involve Nicole Kidman in his next project. While it seems as though Wong has spent the last hundred years filming and then tweaking his curious sci-fi opus, the director has now turned his mind to the future and, in particular, a film called The Lady From Shanghai.

The film will be based in… wait for it, yes, Shanghai – the city of Wong's birth - but that's literally all the information there is. Wong's penchant for secrecy makes George Lucas look positively loose-lipped – half the time his cast doesn't know what's going on - and, truth be told, we wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know much more than that himself as the director's known for writing the screenplay with shooting ongoing. Which is an odd way to work, but there you go.

According to Screendaily.com, Kidman is currently in discussions about her character and, given the length of Wong's shoots, may opt to work on the film on and off between doing other projects.
